Linky: Mathematical Monday!

I am linking up (late) with I Heart Recess for Mathematical Monday!

I absolutely loved her post and I am super excited to try it sometime soon!  Definitely go check it out!

I want to show off some new task/scoot cards that I made over the weekend and our snow days!  You can find them HERE at my TpT Store!

First, my students have REALLY been struggling with adding and subtracting fractions.  It's not the adding and subtracting part, but it's finding equivalent fractions and then having to simplify.  Some of them have just been going into overdrive and completely shutting down. :-(  So I am hoping that doing these task cards in centers and math small groups instead of doing worksheets will help take some stress off.

Sorry that the stinkin' Smart Ink button is on there!

Again, sorry for the Smart Ink button!

Pick up these task/scoot cards HERE!

March Currently!

February flew by! I can't believe it is already March! It's time to link up with

Listening:  I am laying here watching tv, listening to my awesome hubby click away on his PC game.  He humbly let me have a night out last night with some friends so tonight is his night to game away as long as he wants to!  I am so blessed to have him.

Loving:  I am obsessed with Cinnamon Toast Crunch! I literally must have a bowl each night before bed.  It is the perfect amount of sweet to have just before bedtime!

Thinking:  I have been working on a new product for my TpT store lately.  It is going to be a small packet of task cards for practicing adding and subtracting fractions with like and unlike denominators! I am learning more on Adobe Illustrator every day and so it is taking me more time to create my products because I am making them more intricate each time!  Check my store out HERE!

Wanting:  I cannot wait for the writing test to be over!  We are taking it this upcoming Wednesday and I just really hate watching some of my kiddos stress out about it.  I also hate watching a few of my kids care so little about it!  I want the stress of it off of my shoulders!

Needing:  I desperately need to go buy my daughter some new pants! I swear her legs have grown like crazy over the past month or so.  Her bday is coming up in a few months so I don't want to go crazy, but I really need to get her a few new things!

?????????:  10 years?  That is how long my husband and I have been together!  On Wednesday we will celebrate our 10 year dating anniversary.  We don't ever celebrate dating anniversaries anymore since we are married but I figure this is a big one and we need to at least go have dinner or something for it!  10 years ago, when I was 16 years old, he asked me to be his girlfriend and we have been in love ever since.  SO blessed!

Surprising Sentiment

The past two days have been very long.  We had parent/teacher conferences at my school until 730 both evenings and I am truly exhausted!  But I want to share a surprising sentiment that overcame me this evening as I was finishing up my conferences.

First off, I have talked many times on my blog this school year about how this has been the most difficult year I have had teaching so far.  I have a very big class, with lots of personalities within it.  I have felt really discouraged many times this year, mostly because I have felt that many of my students have not yet shown me their full potential.  I told that to many of the parents I met with the past two evenings, and most of them concurred.

But as I was finishing up this evening, I was overwhelmed with a feeling of satisfaction.  I know each of my students this year on a level that I haven't known any other class before.  I know about their home lives, their struggles, their victories, and their accomplishments in a deeper way than I've known my previous students.  This is most likely because I have had to work really hard to connect with them so that I can keep even the slightest bit of control in my classroom!  I was able to really connect with the parents I met with, mostly because I know their child so well.  I was able to tell parents about their student's accomplishments and how well many of them are doing.  I conducted most of my conferences with a big smile on my face!  I felt good telling [most of] my parents how proud I was of them!  My bucket is certainly full!

I just wanted to share my smile with you! :-)

So Many Things!

I have so many things I want to share this evening!!!!

Today and yesterday my district had SNOW DAYS!  Yesterday I got to spend the whole day at home with my precious baby and my sick husband.  He is feeling much better today but had 'the crud' the entire week.

Today I woke up and realized that we have parent/teacher conferences on Monday and Tuesday night and that I was completely unprepared because of missing school!  I met up with some of my coworkers and we had lunch and then went to school to get stuff ready.  I'm hoping that we actually get to have conferences since we are expected to get more snow Monday/Tuesday!

I created a new product on TpT that I am super proud of!  It is a set of Task/Scoot cards that allows students to practice naming fractions, decimals and mixed numbers on a number line!  It asks students to find which letter best represents a given fraction, decimal or mixed number, as well as fill in the missing number, write a number that is less than a given fraction, decimal or mixed number, and MUCH MORE!  I am really excited to use it in my room!  If we wouldn't have had two snow days this week I already would've!  Check it out HERE!!!!!

On another note, I have found this AMAZING app called OverDrive!

It is an app in which you can add your public library to your account and E-Rent books from there for FREE!  All you have to do is create an Adobe ID and have a library card.  I have put it on my classroom set of iPads and so far my two students who have library cards love it!  I am super sad that only two of my students have public library cards.  I am going to get library card applications soon to send home with my students to hopefully encourage their parents to get them one!

The book I read this week on OverDrive is called Gone Girl, by Jillian Flynn.  It was an incredible read, I couldn't put it down.  I thoroughly enjoyed reading it, until the end! I cannot believe how it ended.  Blah.  I highly recommend it if you like crime/thriller/plot-twisty/adult novels!   Check it out! After I read The Confession by John Grisham, I am going to read another one of her novels!  Can't wait!

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

February Currently #supermanstylelate

{I meant to post this earlier this week but I accidentally saved it and forgot about it! So here it is!}

Finally, I have had time to do Farley's currently for this month!  Link up with her HERE!

Listening:  I began watching "The Black List" a while back and have really ended up liking it!  It is very suspenseful and action filled.  However, I would not suggest it for those with weak stomachs. :-)

Loving:  We got snow today!  I got to sit in my classroom (with only 12 kids) and watch it fall as they watched a Social Studies video.  It is just so beautiful and puts me in a wonderful mood!

Thinking:  I am sitting here feeling incredibly thankful that I am sitting here in my warm home, looking at the snow outside with my beautiful daughter.  Today is a "thankful" feeling kind of day.

Wanting:  I desperately want a new printer!  I am always wanting to print the new TpT products that I create to see if I need to edit them in any way before posting them.  I have been having to do this at school but I will definitely get a printer soon so I will have it on hand when I need it!

Needing:  It's about time to make a run to Hobby Lobby to get some cute things for my class for Valentine's Day!  Even though they are in fifth grade they still deserve to get something cute from their teacher to show them some love!

2 Truths and a Fib:
I have, in fact, been teaching for four years.  This is my third year teaching fifth grade, and I taught second grade one year before that.
Science is DEFINITELY NOT my favorite subject to teach! I just can't get into it at all! I wish that I could learn to enjoy it, but I just can't.  Ugh!
I do have one little sister.  She is only 13 months younger than me, but in my eyes she will always be my baby sister.  Love her more than life!

Well, there is my currently!

Five for Friday 1-31-14

I am linking up with Doodle Bugs for her weekly linky party!

1.  I have good news! I have been discussing departmentalizing with my principal recently and she has decided to let fifth grade try it out next year! Next year we are moving to a brand new school and we will be starting all kinds of brand new things and just doing a lot of things differently in general.  The only hard part about this is deciding whether I want to teach Social Studies or Math!  OR BOTH!  My principal is pretty much giving us the option to try out either two teams of two teachers or have each teacher teach a different subject area (plus our own reading small groups).  I am more than excited about this!  Teaching fifth grade is incredibly difficult due to having to take 5 state tests each year.  YES, 5!!!!!  I am excited to do some research and figure things out! \

2.  This week I finished up teaching my students how to compare and order fractions!  I also taught them how to find the greatest common factor.  I used two of my TpT products and they LOVED them! (Check out the links above) It was soooo much fun! I wish I had pics but I didn't take any because I was running around monitoring the whole time!  I also found this super awesome game (that is iPad compatible!!!!) online that helps to reinforce Factors, Multiples, and GCF/LCM!  They had so much fun playing it with a partner!  Check it out HERE!

3.  My husband created a new background, header and button for my blog this week!  I absolutely love it! He is a graphic designer for a hospitality company here in OK and he is incredible!!!!  He has been trying to teach me how to work in Adobe Illustrator lately to help me make things for my TpT store!  It is difficult to learn, but I am really enjoying it!

This is my new button!!!!!! AAHHHHHH!!!! So cute!!!!

4.  Speaking of my TpT store, I have some things that I have been working on for it.  I am making a general rubric that has been in my classroom into a super cute general rubric to hang in my classroom! LOL!  I am also working on activities for fractions and decimals on a number line.  We will see what I come up with! Check my store out HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5.   Lastly, the weather we have had this week has been crazy! No snow as of yet, but we are predicted to have a little winter storm next week.  As for now it is freezing and my allergies are driving me insane from going from warm to freezing within 5 hours!  With all of the crazy cold weather recently we have had lots of inside recess.  :-(  It has not been the greatest week for me because of this.  My students, especially my boys, are really rowdy this year and they NEED to run and play outside.  I can't wait for Spring!

Well, that has been my Monday-Friday in a nutshell!

The next product I want to post about is my Winter Fraction Scoot/Task Cards!
